MaxNet: Faster Flow Control Convergence
نویسندگان
چکیده
MaxNet is a distributed congestion control architecture in which only the most severely bottlenecked link on the end-to-end path controls the source rate. This paper shows that the small-signal convergence speed of MaxNet is higher than that of conventional architectures, such as the current Internet or REM. It also shows that MaxNet decouples the control, so that each pole position depends only on parameters of one bottleneck link and of the sources controlled by that bottleneck, enabling optimal pole placement.

MaxNet: an efficient max-min fair allocation scheme
It has been analytically proved that both MaxNet and SumNet can achieve max-min fair allocation in static networks. In SumNet networks, such as the TCP algorithm of the current Internet, the source rate is controlled by congestion signal which is the sum of signals from all of the congested links along the path from the source to the destination. In MaxNet networks, only the most congested link...

متن کاملMaxNet and TCP Reno/RED on Mice Traffic
Congestion control is a distributed algorithm to share network bandwidth among competing users on the Internet. In the common case, quick response time for mice traffic (HTTP traffic) is desired when mixed with elephant traffic (FTP traffic). The current approach using loss-based with Additive Increase, Multiplicative Decrease (AIMD) is too greedy and eventually, most of the network bandwidth w...
متن کاملTCP MaxNet Background, Algorithms, Implementation and Experiments
We present the first implementation of TCP MaxNet, a congestion control algorithm which uses multi-bit explicit congestion signal. While the theoretical properties of the MaxNet framework have been studied in depth, we have been lacking an implementation of the protocol that would confirm or refute what theory predicts; namely, stability, quick speed of convergence, max-min fairness, short rout...
متن کاملMaxNet: Theory and Implementation
This paper presents the first implementation of the MaxNet TCP network congestion control protocol. MaxNet uses explicit multi-bit signalling from routers to achieve high throughput and low latency over networks of arbitrary capacity and topology, and virtually any delay. The MaxNet algorithm is extended in this paper to give both provable stability and rate fairness. The implementation is base...
